Lakers vs Mavericks: Los Angeles is in danger of missing the playoffs

without LeBron James And Anthony Davis, who missed out with a left ankle sprain and a right mid-foot sprain respectively, trailed the Lakers by 26 points in the first half, with a score of 82-56.

It was the Lakers’ second-highest first-half number of points in franchise history, just one point short of the Boston Celtics’ record 83 set in 1959, according to ESPN statistics.

Mavs star Luka Doncic dominated the Dallas team, scoring 34 points, finishing with 12 rebounds and 12 assists to score his 10th double of the season in just 30 minutes on the field.

Malik Monk led the Los Angeles Road with 28 points, while star goalkeeper Russell Westbrook scored 25.

This latest loss for the Lakers arrived just 48 hours after they were defeated by the No. 9-ranked New Orleans Pelicans. Together, they are a near-fatal blow to the Lakers’ playoff hopes, and according to FiveThirtyEight, they now have a 2% chance of achieving postseason.

“We didn’t execute well enough and we played enough tough, smart, smart, focused and fighting,” Lakers coach Frank Vogel told ESPN. “So it’s unacceptable and just poor performance in all areas: coaches, players, everyone.”

In all remaining regular season games, the Lakers will face a team that ranks higher than them, in six of the seven games against the current top six.

The Lakers have the same win-loss record as the 10th-seeded San Antonio Spurs, but they are 11th with Spurs having a better conference record.

This mode puts the Lakers out of the tournament—the teams ranked 7th through 10th in each conference have two chances to win one game to earn a playoff point.

Losing the playoffs is unfamiliar territory for the Lakers who were the NBA champions only two seasons ago, and the mounting tension within the team was fully apparent after the game.

“Nothing, man. Nothing,” Westbrook replied when asked by a reporter what changes L.A. must struggle to get back into the playing cycle.

The Lakers next game on March 31 when they travel to Salt Lake City to face the Utah Jazz.
