Mohamed Salah pointed laser beams at his face as he executed a penalty kick.

In a repeat of the African Nations Cup final two months ago, Senegal beat Egypt on penalties, as the two teams battled for a place in the World Cup in Qatar this year.

Hamdi Fathi’s early own goal moved the confrontation into extra time after Egypt won the first leg 1-0 on Friday.

But the visitors then lost on penalties, 3-1, with Sadio Mane leading to score the decisive penalty.

There was widespread criticism online regarding the lasers that fans fired in the faces of Egypt’s players during the crucial moments of the match.

The green laser was noticeably visible on Salah’s face as he stepped up and mis-kicked.

The Liverpool star was then taken away as fans ran onto the pitch full time.

CNN’s Mohamed Darwish and Nadine Ibrahim contributed to this report.
