Barcelona striker expected to stay at club after exit deal crumbled

As we enter the penultimate day of the summer transfer window in Spain, Barcelona are still looking to get rid of players from their squad.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Ez Abde, Martin Braithwaite, Sergino Dest and Miralem Pjanic are some of the players who could secure late exits from Spotify Camp Nou.

However, one star who looked certain to leave for the most part of the summer could end up staying. Indeed, as reported by MARCADutch striker Memphis Depay could remain a Barcelona player beyond the ongoing summer transfer window after his move to Juventus collapsed.

Depay has been linked with a move away all through the transfer window. The arrivals of Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha, coupled with the return to full fitness of Ansu Fati, rendered the Netherlands forward surplus to requirements at Barça.

A transfer to Juventus seemed close to completion not so long ago, but the Bianconeri opted to sign Arkadiusz Milik despite having agreed everything with Depay. He has left the Dutch striker in limbo with regard to his future.

There have been murmurs of interest from his former club Manchester Unitedbut it is unlikely that they might go after him after splashing €100 million on Antony.

As things stand, there are not many clubs pursuing his signing and the report states that it is unlikely to change in the last two days of the transfer window. As a result, there is a solid chance that Depay might end up staying at Barcelona.

It might work out well for the Blaugrana as he would provide cover in the No. 9 role behind Lewandowski should Aubameyang end up joining Chelsea as expected.

Depay joined Barcelona only last summer and finished his debut season in Catalonia as the club’s joint-top goalscorer, netting 13 times. He is yet to play a single minute of football this season. But that situation could change if he ends up staying put.
