Badminton: History is made, Aaron-Wooi Yik wins Malaysia’s first badminton world title

PETALING JAYA: Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik created history after becoming Malaysia’s first World Champions in Tokyo on Sunday (Aug 28).

The world No. 6 pair secured a superb 21-19, 21-14 victory over Indonesia’s three-time world champions Mohd Ahsan-Hendra Setiawan at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium.

The Malaysians were behind 7-11 at the interval and the game seemed over at 16-11 and 18-12.

Aaron-Wooi Yik though refused to throw in the towel and rattled in four straight points to 16-18.

They then made it 19-19 and stayed cool to snatch the next two crucial points to win the game 21-19.

Buoyed by their fantastic first game win, the Malaysians showed great confidence and determination to wrap up the second game 21-14.
